Training

Everyday untrained housewives shoot bad guys. It’s worth repeating: Everyday untrained housewives shoot bad guys.
It’s ironic that most people who are involved in self- defense shootings are not highly trained.
This is not to suggest that we don’t need to train, far from it.
The big question is “When is the time to step off of the square range?”
A friend of mine had purchased a handgun for self-defense and I had told him as I tell anyone new to firearms “make sure you get some professional training before using it”.
Having a gun and not having a clue how to use it is worse than not having a gun at all.
So he has this new firearm and is trying to find a time and place to train that fits in his schedule and budget when his next door neighbor is robbed in his driveway.
I gave my friend and his sons an 8 hour class two weeks later. We covered the basics of safety, weapon manipulation and how to use the sights then went immediately into shooting from cover and on the move.
At Biggers Consulting, we recognize that most people do not have the luxury of attending multiple training classes. Most shooting schools require multiple classes before you can ever experience any self-defense type training.
If you have a basic background in shooting a handgun and can safely draw, reholster and clear common malfunctions, it may be time for you to take the next step in your training.
I’ve been fortunate enough to attend a number of shooting schools and been exposed to some of the finest firearms trainers in the world, many of whom I call friends. I don’t teach anything new, I’ve borrowed heavily from others. The primary thing that sets us apart is an accelerated learning curve.
